The Best Parts of the MMA Instruction Manual
First, it's hard to argue with anything that one of the best MMA fighters in the history of the sport has to say or show. Second, the book does a good job of explaining every move (excellent pictures backed up by written descriptions). Finally, the moves explained span from the simple (for beginner's) to much more complex (advanced). Standing, ground, focus mitt combinations, and standing to ground techniques are all discussed.
And yes, Silva and Cordoza take you through "The Spider's" staple Muay Thai clinch. But what I like about it is that he also shows you some set ups, such as a foot stomp from that position leading to a knee, for example.
Some of my other favorite techniques discussed in the book include Silva's reverse triangle, counter takedown to Anaconda choke, and counter overhand to armbar. But there were many others.
Don't Buy If
Oftentimes, I have something pretty significant to say in this section. But when it comes to this book, the only thing I can think of is don't buy this if you don't want to learn MMA techniques.
The Final Word
The MMA Instruction Manual by Anderson Silva with Glen Cordoza is a more than solid MMA reference. There are enough basic moves in this manual to keep beginner's happy. There are enough higher level techniques to keep more advanced mixed martial artists interested. Overall, this is another excellent addition from Victory Belt Publishing.
