Coming into their UFC on FOX 2 bout, George Roop was considered one of the tallest featherweight fighters in the world. Cub Swanson wasn't, but that didn't necessarily make him any less tough. Here's how their fight went down.
Early in round one, Swanson landed a mild low kick. Roop connected with a right to the body. Roop then hit home with a mild front kick to the body. Solid left hand from Roop. Then came a nice low kick by Swanson. Nice body kick by Roop after a flurry of punches that missed. Another front kick by Roop to the body. The two traded some punches. Swanson came inside and landed some nice punches in a frenzy that seemed to dizzy his adversary for a moment. Roop fired back right after, hitting home nicely. After a clinch, Roop gained separation and nailed his opponent with a body kick. Then came a low kick. Nice right by Swanson. Body kick from Roop. Then Roop shot in looking for a takedown. Swanson shirked it, and then executed a nice hip throw, sending his adversary to the canvas. Roop got up, but ate a hard low kick on the way. Some trading before Swanson grabbed a leg and sent Roop to the floor. Roop landed a solid upkick, got up soon after, and then the bell sounded.
That was a close round. Still, given Roop's bloody nose and the two takedowns, I would give it to Swanson.
Roop landed a solid jab to start round two. Later, he connected with a couple of solid low kicks. The two traded, with Roop hitting home with a knee; Swanson, a punch. Swanson then landed a nice low kick. A long term clinch followed in the middle of the Octagon, which saw Roop land more knees than his opponent.
And that's when it happened. Swanson came inside fast with a right hand that dropped his adversary. Several punches on the ground later and the referee was forced to stop things.
