It's no secret that prior to Matt Hughes agreeing to fight Josh Koscheck at UFC 135, Koscheck had campaigned for just such a bout with the former champion.  And if you ask Hughes that's understandable...kind of, anyway.

"Well, I can't really blame him there," Hughes told MMA Nation's Luke Thomas.  "I do have the most titles in the weight class and I'm a former champion, Hall of Fame. I don't blame Koscheck for wanting to fight the best at all. I would be the same way. What I kind of think is, call out the champion. Call out the guy who has the belt, not the guy who had the belt."

So who would take home victory at UFC 135- the old dog or the young man calling him out?

Hughes threw several jabs right off the bat, only grazing with one. After nearly a minute and a half of time had gone by, Koscheck threw a solid flurry that connected. Then he hit home with a good left hand. Hughes returned the favor with three left hooks in short succession. He then threw and connected with some solid jabs and left hooks, even an uppercut. Overall, so far, he looks good on his feet. Nice left by Koscheck. Another solid left from Hughes moving forward. The two traded some solid punches. Koscheck shot in hard looking for the takedown, but he was unable to get it. For a while after, Hughes really began to pick his opponent apart with jabs. But that's when Koscheck hit home with several right hands, the first of which really left Hughes dizzy. Soon after came a clinch, where Hughes attempted a knee that connected, but left him off balance, sending him to the ground. Koscheck followed him to the canvas, where he unleashed several strikes, including some serious hammerfists that put Hughes out cold.

Nice try by Hughes in a tough match up.

Josh Koscheck defeats Matt Hughes by KO at 4:59 of round one.
