Recently, boxing champion Manny Pacquiao spoke with BoxingScene.com's Bill Emes and Michael Marley. When asked about competing in MMA, he had an interesting answer, even if he also noted that the sport was "too brutal."
"I want to (compete in MMA) but they [promoters and management] don't want me to fight," he said.
Pacquiao is a great boxer that is in his prime, which would make him different than James Toney. But that won't help him defeat a solid MMA fighter with a good game plan as things currently stand. However, if he were to really train in MMA for a while, well, then we'd be in for a possible treat.
In other words, I'd love to see a Pacquiao with some takedown defense and basic Brazilian Jiu Jitsu skills try his hand at the sport. Without that, his fate would likely be sealed.
