We've all thought about that 'what if' scenario. You know, the what if burglars came into our house looking to steal things in the middle of the night situation? Unfortunately, that terrible possibility recently became reality for Johannes Alder, a five time British Sambo champion, and his wife Liz.
The two were asleep in their Saucelhill Terrace, Paisley home, when Liz apparently heard noises downstairs and went to investigate. There it is believed that teenage thieves were taking the Alder's belongings and loading them into a car parked nearby. After the thieves attacked Liz, Johannes stepped in to protect her. When he tried to apprehend one of the criminals, they both turned their knives on him, stabbing him in both the head and body.
"We could hear shouting. I heard Liz shouting, 'Phone the police, phone the police", said neighbor William McGuire.
According to police, the suspects were between 17 and 19. As of Friday night, Johannes was fighting for his life. A terrible fate for a brave man and martial artist. Hopefully, he pulls through.
