Chicago Bulls Draft Martial Arts Expert James Johnson

Friday June 26, 2009
Last night, the Chicago Bulls selected 6-foot-8, 257 pound Wake Forest forward James Johnson with the 16th pick in the NBA Draft. With him, the team picked up a player that managed 15 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for the Demon Deacons. But that's not all they got with Johnson.

You see, Johnson's father Willie was a seven-time kickboxing champion and now operates J&P's Martial Arts school in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Johnson himself went 20-0 in kickboxing competitions and reportedly won a mixed martial arts fight in high school. Eight of the nine children in the family are black belts, including him.

Says Bulls general manager Gar Forman: "I don't think he's doing it (cage fights) anymore. If he is, it will be in his contract that he's not."

Now if this was hockey, Johnson would be the ultimate enforcer. He's a pretty accomplished athlete for such a young guy, no?
