Lyoto Machida vs. Mark Munoz Results – Coming into this fight, Mark Munoz was coming off of an absolutely awesome performance in dominating Tim Boetsch at UFC 162. In fact, when you really look at it, coming into his bout with Machida, Munoz had won five of his last six. That said, the one he lost to Chris Weidman was a little bit of a humbling loss, in that he was dominated in the grappling department, his forte. On the flip side, this was Machida’s debut in the middleweight division after having dropped four of his last seven. Of course, his losses to Phil Davis and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson along the way were pretty controversial ones.
Did Machida thwart Munoz’s wrestling attempts, as he had so many times against those with a grappling background in the light heavyweight division? Did the drop in weight affect him?

Early on, Machida took the center of the Octagon. At first, there was no action. I mean, none. And that's how things went until the 3:11 mark when Machida landed a hard body kick. The Dragon then grazed with a left hand several moments later. Soon after, Machida connected with hard body kicks on two different occasions. And that's when it happened. A huge left footed high roundhouse kick that dropped his friend. Machida held up with a right hand, kneeling over his downed opponent, allowing the referee to stop things before he threw another strike.
Machida is going to be a very tough out in this division.
