The Styles that Make up MMA
When the first UFC event aired back in 1993, it was all about which martial arts style was best. Would a karate fighter defeat a wrestler? How would a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) fighter do against a Tae Kwon Do black belt? In the end, BJJ competitor Royce Gracie won three of the first four UFC tournaments, proving his art's worth. Nowadays, MMA fighters crosstrain in all of the styles that have proven effective in the sport. Along with this, there are numerous styles that have contributed to modern day MMA along the way.
