Diego Sanchez and Clay Guida Engage in a Fight of the Year Candidate

By Robert Rousseau, About.com

What: TUF 9 Finale Results

Where: MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada

Diego Sanchez defeats Clay Guida by split decision: Diego Sanchez came out and dominated Clay Guida in the striking department early, landed some huge uppercuts that clearly rocked him before dropping him with a high head kick. But somehow, Guida managed to survive. In the second round, Guida controlled things after achieving a takedown, even though Sanchez accumulated some points with elbows to the head from the bottom, leaving his opponent a bloody mess. In the final round, the striking was close but Sanchez attempted two submissions. Though both failed, that may have been what deservedly netted him a split decision victory.

This was one of the best fights of the year. Clay Guida is just impossible to knock out.
