Definition: Kata (japanese term) or forms (general term) are a formal set of postures, movements and techniques designed to teach a student of a given style the techniques and principles of that martial art.
Pronunciation: kah - tah
Also Known As: forms, taolu, sets, poomse, hyung
Examples: At karate class, we train our beginning katas so that we can learn how to properly shift our bodies from one technique to another.
