John Makdessi vs. Darren Cruickshank at UFC 158. Here's how it went down.
The first round was a cautious one, particularly on Makdessi's part. Overall, Cruickshank utilized his length to connect with some oblique kicks and low kicks. Though Makdessi came on a bit toward the end of things, I'd still give Cruickshank the round.
The second round was much more eventful. Makdessi landed a solid spinning back kick; Cruickshank hit home with a nice spinning hook kick. That said, the real difference in this one was the way that Makdessi began landing jabs, which really started to take their toll. In an exciting stanza, I'd say that Makdessi tied things up.
The final round saw Makdessi really begin to dominate. From the start of the final round on, he took the center of the ring and kept his opponent on the defensive attempting to counter, which played to his ability to punch him repeatedly. Pretty cool fight between two Tae Kwon Do based fighters, but Makdessi should come out on top.
John Makdessi defeats Darren Cruickshank by unanimous decision.
