MMA legend Dan Henderson fights tonight at UFC 157 against Lyoto Machida for respect and to rise in the rankings. But the reality is that he has the chance, albeit some might say an outside one, to move one step closer to a major- I mean major- record. You see, Henderson has been a PRIDE Fighting champion. He has been a Strikeforce champion. And with a win against Machida, he could quite possibly gain the chance to become a UFC champion.
To win a title in all three of the greatest MMA promotions in history would be, well, historic (and a record). And such a feat would actually immeasurably improve a legacy that was a great one to begin with. In fact, it might cause some to feel that Henderson was the greatest MMA fighter of all-time. In my book, that guy is still Anderson Silva, save possibly a Henderson victory over him in the future. Still, a light heavyweight championship belt would net Hendo some consideration for the mythical award.
So we wait and see if he can start his climb toward the belt with a win over Machida tonight.
