UFC 158 was looking to be a Canadian MMA fans' dream. First, there was the main event bout between Canadian UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre and Nick Diaz. Then there was fellow native Rory MacDonald slated to take on Carlos Condit in a revenge match.
Not so fast, my friends.
MacDonald then went on to suffer a neck and back injury, which left him unable to fight. This caused the UFC to set up a bout between Carlos Condit and Johny Hendricks. Which, of course, left Hendricks' initial opponent, Jake Ellenberger, without someone to fight. Enter Nate Marquardt to fill that void.
So to summarize, it's now Carlos Condit vs. Johny Hendricks and Jake Ellenberger vs. Nate Marquardt. Probably not what Canadian fans were hoping for. That said, at least the injury happened far enough out to allow the UFC time to find good replacements.
