The bottom line? Cormier achieved an early takedown, moving straight into side control. Yet Staring got up. That said, Cormier followed that up with a flurry of strikes that hurt his adversary before taking him down once again. This time Cormier began to land some significant elbows. Staring got up again, but was put back down on his back soon after. This time, Cormier fell right into the mount position, landing big elbows and punches. Yet somehow, Staring made it through round one.
Round two saw Cormier achieve an early takedown and then dominate from a positional and ground and pound perspective before the referee chose to step in.
