We all know Jet Li as one of the most famous martial arts movie actors of all-time. Given his iconic status, he wants to give back to China and the indigenous martial arts there that helped to make him famous. Along with this, Li has decided to start a Tai Chi school with Alibaba Group Chairman Jack Ma.
Though Li professed the belief that China has become "an economic powerhouse," at Alibaba's Group annual summit for small to medium-sized business owners in Hangzhou, he also acknowledges that the country has relatively little cultural influence around the world compared to nations like the U.S., Japan, and South Korea. He wants people to look at Tai Chi as something other than what older people practice in parks, as it is a valid part of the Chinese world.
"For China not to have a contribution to the rest of the world would be a "pity," he said. "I feel shame before my ancestors," he added, indicating that he wants kids to be proud of their "national culture."
Li has done a lot with his time on this world. Don't count him out here, either.
