"I can hold on on the the ground. I'm no slouch," said Alan Belcher, as he readied to take on Jason MacDonald at UFC Fight Night 25. Of course, he was referring to MacDonald's known Brazilian Jiu Jitsu strengths. But since they start each fight on the feet, perhaps Belcher should've been talking more about his striking prowess and how the long layoff due to injury might impact it more than anything else.
Early on, MacDonald ducked under a jab looking for the takedown to no avail. Belcher pressed him into the cage where neither fighter could gain an advantage. Then MacDonald pressed his adversary into the cage, looking for the single leg. When that didn't work, he pulled guard. From there, Belcher really put a hurt on MacDonald, nailing him with hard punches and elbows. After a brief kimura attempt from the Canadian fighter failed, Belcher took side control. Though positions changed, the bottom line is that Belcher beat his adversary up bad, eventually forcing a verbal submission.
Alan Belcher defeats Jason MacDonald by verbal submission at 3:48 of round one.
