It's always tough when you achieve your dream of fighting for a UFC championship belt, only to fall short. That's what happened to Jake Shields at UFC 129. Combine that with the loss of your father, something Shields also recently experienced, and that comeback fight means an awful lot. Of course, in Shields' case it came against some stiff competition in Jake Ellenberger. Wondering how their Fight Night 25 bout went down?

Here goes.

Early on, Shields clinched with Ellenberger, and the latter threw him to the ground, letting him up a moment later.  Shields shot in soon after again, but his attempt was shirked.  And that's when Ellenberger threw a couple of knees inside that left his opponent dizzy on the ground in front of him.  After several  punches on the canvas later, the referee rightfully stepped in.

That was one fast stoppage.

Jake Ellenberger defeats Jake Shields by TKO after 53 seconds in round one.

I really hate shields loss of his father. I think he should have waited a little while before getting in the ring again. I’m not a big fan,but he is a lot better than he showed.

Yes, I agree. Shields is a much better fighter than he showed last night. That’s the tough thing- we want fighters to fight through it. But sometimes, maybe, they just can’t and should’ve taken some time.

he got his ass kicked and I think if he thought he couldn’t give 110 % he wouldnt have fought.

Yeah, Matt…no fighter has ever gone in there without being 100%.
