Lloyd Irvin is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, an outstanding submission fighting competitor, and the head man at one of the better mixed martial arts training facilities in the nation. Brandon Vera is one of his prized pupils and a UFC fighter. That said, when two gunmen invade your home and hold your family at gunpoint, as was the case in 2008 for Irvin with Vera present, a martial arts background seems way more essential than anyone every hoped it would need to be. Luckily, while one of the gun toting criminals held his son, Vera, and wife at gunpoint, the other beckoned Irvin into the master bedroom where the Sambo defensive gun and knife techniques expert (on top of other things) was able to disarm the intruder. The two criminals then fled the scene.
Well, guess what? It appears that WUSA9 is indicating that one of the two gunmen that invaded Irvin's home has been deemed a suspected serial killer.
One can't even imagine how scary the incident was by itself, but this more up to date news is even more disturbing. Thankfully, Irvin knew enough martial arts to protect his friend and family. At least we can all be happy about that.
