In the first round, Matt Hughes protege Matt Veach proved that he was worthy of fighting Frank Edgar with two huge slam takedowns and a couple of nice lefts. Though Edgar began to show his technically superior boxing toward the end of the initial stanza, it could be said that Veach's raw power helped him to win the first round.
But the second round was a different story. Namely, Edgar connected with a hard right hand that dizzied Veach and then followed it up with more punches, including several unanswered lefts on the canvas. The pounding eventually led to Edgar taking his adversary's back and sinking in the rear naked choke. This fight showed just how technically sound Edgar is, despite finding himself up against a much bigger man.
