Here's what was controversial about the way Cain Velasquez took home victory over Ben Rothwell at UFC 104. When the fight was called, yes Rothwell was taking terrible punishment from a flurry of Velasquez lefts along the cage wall. That said, he was getting to his feet in the process of taking these shots, making the stoppage seem a little premature (Rothwell complained as soon as the fight was called). Now here's what was not controversial about the stoppage.
Despite Rothwell's heart and determination, Velasquez was absolutely dominating him. First, he achieved several takedowns throughout the fight. Second, while on the canvas, Velasquez managed to achieve side control, the mount, and everything inbetween. What's more, he connected with some fierce shots on his opponent while on the ground, including a variety of punches and big elbows.
In the end, Rothwell probably should've been given longer. But there is absolutely no reason to believe that he would've won even if he had been given more time, as this was a complete domination. Get ready Brock Lesnar, Shane Carwin, Frank Mir, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
