Joe Stevenson Defeats Spencer Fisher By Submission Due to Elbows At UFC 104

Spencer Fisher is known as an adept striker with good power.  Unfortunately for him, he's not known for his wrestling, nor takedown defense.  And at UFC 104, that played right into Joe Stevenson's hands.

That said, in the first round Stevenson had a very hard time taking Fisher down, who did an amazing job of sprawling and fighting off his stronger opponent in the early going. Further, Fisher tended to beat his Stevenson to the punch, or even more often the kick, in the early stages. That said, late in the initial round Joe Daddy finally got Fisher to the canvas (who was having trouble seeing out of his right eye due to blood from a cut openend up by a Stevenson left).  There Stevenson took the back of his turtled up opponent and rained down punches on him until the bell, likely netting him the stanza.  In the second stanza, however, Stevenson proved able to take Fisher down easier and quicker.  Eventually, this served as the precursor to him attaining the side control position, trapping Fisher's arm, and hitting home with a flurry of hard elbows that eventually forced his adversary to submit.

Joe Stevenson defeats Spencer Fisher by submission due to strikes at 4:03 of round two.  After the fight, Fisher told Stevenson that he was, "the better man."
