Kali Gaining Popularity in Russia

Fact is, some of the more popular traditional martial arts styles haven't always been given a chance to grow in Russia due to its history.  That's not to say that those styles haven't found their way to the motherland via the eclectic Russian Sambo, as many styles influenced it formulation, nor is it to say that there aren't a lot of very impressive martial artists from the region (Fedor Emelianenko, anyone?).  That said, when an outside, more traditional style begins to make headway in the region it's worth noting.  Along with this, it appears that the Filipino martial arts style commonly called Arnis, Eskrima, or Kali, has recently gained a foothold in the region due to a recent public demonstration there.

The demonstration involved leading members of the Pikiti-Tirsia Kali Russian Federation (PTK-RF), and was part of a larger, cultural based program organized by the Asia-Pacific Women's Group at the Asia-Pacific Charity Bazaar.  Pretty cool to hear that one of the more popular weapons-based styles is getting some notoriety with a population that many years ago would've never gotten the chance to practice it in its traditional form.
