Who could ever forget Jean Claude Van Damme in the movie Bloodsport? The way he beat down the competition in a Hong Kong based, no holds barred tournament during that flick is the stuff of legends. Word is that the film was based on the real life exploits of a martial artist by the name of Frank Dux.
And that same Frank Dux, who is a Black Dragon Grand Master, recently spoke to the Boys & Girls Club of the Emerald Coast’s Okaloosa County Teen Center. During the talk, Dux showed off some martial arts maneuvers but also tried to drive home more important points as well.
“The point of martial arts is not the mastering of others, but the mastering of yourself,” Dux said. “One of the things I try to teach is kindness. You always want to strive to be your best. Martial arts, truly, is the study of the resolution of conflict through the perfection of one’s character."
Bravo for his efforts in speaking to a crowd of youth that, given their age, probably had no idea who he was coming into things. Guess is they'll remember him for a positive reason going out, however.
