UFC President Dana White Rips Strikeforce For Herschel Walker Signing

In case you missed the news, former NFL star Herschel Walker has signed an MMA contract with Strikeforce.  And in more recent news, UFC President Dana White isn't exactly saying positive things about the occurrence.

"I think it's ridiculous," White told Mike Chiappetta on the Inside The Ultimate Fighter podcast. "People think we're anti-competition? We're anti-dumb competition. Doing stupid things like this, putting a 50-year-old guy in the Octagon for the first time, and then going out there putting out press releases like it's a big deal because you signed a 50-year-old Herschel Walker? Are you serious?"

Admittedly, Walker, at age 47, probably isn't going to be fighting for any championships in the sport after starting this late.  That said, it's hard to argue that the signing won't bring in viewers.  Further, we're talking about one of the better athletes you'll ever find, and a very good guy to boot.  In the end, given the fact that the UFC competition is so fierce, this signing wouldn't have made as much sense for the UFC.  But Strikeforce is still growing, and Walker is going to bring in viewers.  Will it be all spectacle with no substance?  Well, that remains to be seen.  As old as Walker is, he still looks to be in great shape and has a strong Tae Kwon Do background, so we'll see.
