Nate Diaz Wins By Submission Over Melvin Guillard

By , About.com GuideSeptember 16, 2009

Follow me on:

"I'm looking to knock him out in the first round," Melvin Guillard told fans before taking on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu superstar Nate Diaz in the main event at Fight Night 19.  Well, he certainly started out looking like a fortune teller, as Guillard rocked Diaz early with a huge right hand.  In fact, he looked good in picking his opponent apart for the entire first round.

But in the second, as is often the case in Diaz fights, things were different.

Guillard chose to play possum in the cage for a moment in the second, pretending to be hurt.  This caused Diaz to come forward aggressively, which prompted an okay Guillard to fly in looking for the kill.  But this slippery slope left Guillard on the ground on top of Diaz, who immediately sunk in the guillotine.  At 2:13 of round two, it was simply all over by way of submission.

The bottom line is that the Diaz brothers are never out of fights.  Not ever.
