Ray Mercer Thinks He Will Continue to KO MMA Fighters

Follow me on:

Former professional boxing champion Ray Mercer destroyed Tim Sylvia at Adrenaline 3 a couple of months ago.  Along with this, he has every reason to gloat about his victory. After all, previous to their MMA encounter Sylvia had actually thought he could beat Mercer in a boxing match, which was clearly more than wishful thinking.  But after reading a Mercer interview at East Side Boxing, it appears the win has actually gone to Mercer's head perhaps a little too much.

"I definitely don't think MMA guys should be messing around with boxers. We'll KO them," Mercer said.  "It kills me how none of those guys want to fight me now. They say they have heart in that sport, but I don't know. They don't wanna do it, with those four ounce gloves on. I thought they were tough. I was supposed to fight a guy after Tim Sylvia, but he turned it down. I'm really surprised none of those guys will take a fight with me, and I'm nearly 50-years old, man!"

Of course, this could simply be a marketing ploy.  Further, he did destroy a former UFC champion in an MMA match, not a boxing one, and that feat deserves some respect.  That said, if Mercer really believes seasoned MMA fighters are scared of him, he's on another planet.  Most MMA fighters will not choose to stand with a boxer.  Rather, they'll shoot in and take him right to the ground quickly.  There his boxing will be as effective as a cap gun in a war.

Remember, before Sylvia there was Kimbo Slice vs. Ray Mercer.  That one didn't go quite as well for the former boxing great.

I always hear Boxers say they beat up MMA fighters, but never take the chance.
