Fedor Emelianenko Defeats Gegard Mousasi By Armbar At M-1 Breakthrough

Saturday August 29, 2009

It was a little weird looking, to be honest.  But that's what you get in an exhibition match.  Both fighters threw strikes that were really soft.  Fedor Emelianenko took Gegard Mousasi down on repeated occasions with hard throws, and Mousasi looked for a few submissions, including an armbar and omoplata along the way.  Eventually, Emelianenko secured an armbar on his adversary in the first round and that was that.  His strength and size advantage were clear throughout the encounter.  Then again, we have no idea how hard either of these fighters was truly trying.

In other words, this was very much a special rules match that really had nothing to do with reality.  It was just put together to be entertaining.  Here's looking forward to the real deal when Emelianenko takes on Brett Rogers.
