Wanderlei Silva Wants a Rematch With Chuck Liddell

Wednesday January 7, 2009
According to an article at MMAWeekly , UFC President Dana White and Wanderlei Silva are scheduled to meet this week in order to determine Silva's future in the organization. Word is the discussion may turn toward Silva dropping to the middleweight division after a rather convincing loss to Quinton "Rampage" Jackson at UFC 92 . Before that happens, however, Silva would like a rematch with Chuck Liddell.

“I am thinking I want to fight Chuck again,” said Silva. “I want to fight with him again because I had a good match with him (at UFC 79), and his style is a good style for me, and my style is good for him. It’s good for the show. Maybe it’s good for Dana.”

Furthering things, Silva isn't necessarily crazy about the idea of dropping down to the 185 pound division to begin with. “It’s my normal weight,” he said regarding the 205 pound class that he currently fights in. “I never cut down too much weight for a fight. Maybe I go to fight one more time at light heavyweight, and after I go down.”

Silva is a company kind of guy that would likely be willing to fight anyone in any division at anytime. Still, he may be onto something here. Both he and Liddell have fallen on hard times recently. Another fight between them could be a memorable brawl that brings the spotlight back. On the flip side, it's becoming increasingly clear that his former dominant streak at 205 is over.

In the end, a move to 185 is probably best. But for now, why not another fight with Liddell?

If I were betting on the UFC 92 fight I would have lost a lot of money. I fully expected Silva to walk away victorious. I do hope that he and Dana White can work out something to keep him in the same weight class as Liddell. Another Silva vs. Liddell main event would sure to be big money maker for White and give the fans what they want.
