Shinya Aoki Submits Eddie Alvarez By Heel Hook

Eddie Alvarez had been fighting as well as one can, finding himself on a five fight winning streak that included victories over Joachim Hansen and Tatsuya Kawajiri. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu expert Shinya Aoki needed a victory to erase a loss to Joachim Hansen he experienced two fights ago.

In a rare display during their fight at Dynamite!! 2008, Aoki actually scooted on his butt toward his Philadelphia based adversary in an effort to goad him into a ground fight. When that didn’t work, Aoki simply grabbed an Alvarez kick, took him to the ground, and sunk in a heel hook at the 1:32 mark of round one.

Aoki is an amazing ground fighter that makes grappling every bit as exciting as any stand up battle you’ll see.
