Gun Wielding Neighbor Disarmed by Martial Artist
Quickly, Walker grabbed the barrel of the gun and lifted it with his left hand while pushing his adversary’s wrist and arm into his head with his right. In essence, he used the barrel of the gun against his opponent’s head like a hammer.
It was Walker’s training in the self-defense system of bojouka since the age of 25 that took over. Muscle memory, if you will. He continued to strike the man—Eric E. Backlund— until he stopped resisting. When the police got to the scene, they found Backlund in a pool of his own blood with Walker standing over him.
“You don’t want to try to disarm someone if they have a gun in that situation unless there’s no other option,” Fairbanks police Sgt. Robert Thompson said. “But it’s something that I would recommend.”
Regardless, this situation shows the power in knowing martial arts . After all, Walker’s girlfriend and child were in the house with him at the time of the incident. That’s reason enough to have the capability of defending one’s self. Then at least you have the option of taking a chance in a weapons based situation if such an unfortunate thing were to occur.
